This blue and white M is one of my favorite letters: I have been observing this wonderful, graphical typography object since I live in Berlin (since 1996). It used to hang in Berlin-Mitte at the old market hall at Alexanderplatz and in November 2008 we could finally take it into our collection. Since then it has been one of my favorites because as a typogram it combines the letter M with graphic elements. It is only as a unit that it becomes a powerful, expressive symbol or logo.
But it is also a historical document of the city’s memory which especially the inhabitants of East Berlin remember well.
It is only when the signs of the city disappear that we miss them. We have been saving them for 15 years and presenting them in a new perspective.
